This Bernhard Langer design is quickly gaining a reputation as a classic links golf course. Like its illustrious neighbour, Portmarnock Golf Club, the course is built on the continuing stretch of dunes into play at every opportunity. Like all links courses wind plays an important role on this course and wayward drives will find deep rough and out of bounds. The long par 4 eleventh is a superb hole and deserves the index one rating as the most difficult hole on the course. The 18th is a great par 4 finishing hole, which plays alongside the sea from an elevated tee box and requires an accurate drive to have any chance of a finishing par. Langar remarked, "There are few locations in Europe which could have allowed me the opportunity and landscape to design such a classic championship golf links.
